Organization Chart
The organization chart places people, groups, and reporting lines on an interactive canvas to depict your organizational structure.
Overview
The Organization Chart depicts your organizational structure on an interactive canvas: who belongs to the organization, how responsibilities are grouped, and who reports to whom. Auditors regularly ask for a current organization chart; maintained here, it stays linked to the people it describes and can be exported as a PDF report at any time.
Viewing the chart
Everyone in the organization can view the chart:
- Pan and zoom: drag or scroll the canvas; the controls in the bottom-left corner zoom in, zoom out, or fit the whole chart into view.
- Fullscreen: the fullscreen mode is useful for presenting, for example in an audit conversation.
- The chart also appears as a card on the dashboard, and Reports → Organization Chart exports it as a PDF document with all placed people and reporting lines.
Editing the chart
Editing requires permission to manage people (owners and administrators). Select Edit Chart to unlock the canvas: a dot grid appears and elements snap to it while you drag. Your changes stay local until you select Save (a small dot on the button signals unsaved changes); Cancel discards them and restores the last saved chart.
Adding elements
Open the add menu by right-clicking anywhere on the canvas, by selecting Add in the toolbar at the bottom, or by pressing a or /. From the menu you can:
- Add a person: search the active members of your organization under Team and select one to place them. Each member can be placed only once; people already on the chart appear under On chart, and selecting them jumps to their card instead.
- Add an external person: type a name that doesn't match a member and select Add … as external person. Use this for people outside the application, such as an external data protection officer or a contractor. External cards show a dashed border and an
Externaltag. - Insert a label: free text for headings and annotations, for example a department name or a legend.
- Insert a group: a resizable dashed container to visually group related people, for example a team or department. Groups sit behind the other elements.
Job titles
Person and external cards carry a job title below the name. Fill it in while editing; on the saved chart, a card without a job title is highlighted with a warning border, since an unnamed role is a gap in the picture the chart is supposed to give.
Reporting lines
Drag from one of the four connection points on the edge of a card to another card to draw a reporting line. Lines run at right angles with rounded corners and can start or end on any side of a card. To remove elements:
- Right-click a line and select Delete connection, or select it and press
Delete/Backspace. - Right-click a card and select Remove from chart (people) or Delete (labels and groups). Removing a person from the chart never changes their membership; it only takes them off the drawing.
Auto-format
Auto-format (in the bottom toolbar) arranges the chart automatically: people are laid out level by level along their reporting lines, and the view re-frames the result. Use it to tidy up after larger changes; you can still adjust positions manually afterwards.
Kept in sync with People
Person cards stay linked to the underlying members of the People list:
- When someone leaves the organization, their card and its connections are removed from the chart automatically.
- When a member is deactivated, their card appears dimmed until they're reactivated.
