Evidence Categories
Group evidence into categories for easier organization.
Overview
Evidence categories are an editable, per-organization taxonomy for your evidence. They let you group related proof — for example Access Management, Business Continuity, or Penetration Testing — so large evidence registers stay organized, filterable, and easy to navigate.
Categories work the same way an asset class organizes assets: they are templates you define once and reuse across many evidence items.
Core Functionality
We provide a central place to manage the categories your evidence is grouped under. Each category has a name, a unique slug, an optional description, and an optional color used to visually distinguish it in lists.
Categories are referenced from individual evidence items. Assigning a category is optional, and removing a category leaves the evidence in place — the evidence simply becomes uncategorized rather than being deleted.
Fields Explained
| Field | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
Name | Display name of the category | Access Management |
Slug | Unique identifier used for referencing the category | access-management |
Description | Optional explanation of what the category covers | Reviews of who can access what |
Best Practices
- Keep the set of categories small and meaningful so they aid filtering rather than fragmenting it.
- Name categories after the area of proof they represent, not after a single piece of evidence.
- Review categories periodically and merge or retire ones that are no longer used.
